A friend of mine is interested in patent law because of an item he is trying to patent. The other day, he got a letter that identified it as being an “Office action” and had no idea what it was, just that he didn’t get the approval he was expecting. As he was becoming more upset and excited, I took him to our computer and accessed www.patentlawportal.com and was able to look up the term from that site. It turns out that it is
correspondence from the United States Patent & Trademark Office typically rejecting or objecting to claims or restricting an application to one of two or several inventions claimed.
