Learning the American English Accent-Understanding Voicing
Learning the American English Accent-Understanding VoicingVoicing refers to whether our vocal cords, which are two V-shaped muscles located in our throats, are moving or not. If they are moving then we can hear our voice, and the sound is called a “voiced” sound. When we speak, we don’t always use our voice, however. Sometimes we just push air out of our mouths in different ways, depending on how we move our lips and tongue. Sounds formed when our vocal cords remain still are called “unvoiced” sounds. It is important to be able to turn your voice on and off to form sounds correctly. Something to remember when learning the American accent.=)
