Research Before You Purchase An Acrylic Saltwater Aquarium

I have learned through much trial and tribulation that there is a correct way to think about creating and maintaining a fish aquarium. This has been based on many, ill fated attempts of mine to act impulsively when there was something I wanted.

The first step to consider is research. One needs to know what it is they want. Do you want a freshwater system, or an acrylic saltwater aquarium? If freshwater, do you want it for warm water tropical fish or cold water goldfish? Do you have some idea as to where this aquarium will go ? Have you decided upon the shape and size of the tank? How much money can you afford for the stand, aquarium, filtration system, gravel, sand, tank plants and not least of all, the fish? Also, how much of your free time are you willing to commit toward the health and maintenance of your aquarium ?

If going through these steps seems like too much work, that’s a good signal for stopping while you are ahead. There is no shame in recognizing limitations.
