Word Counts Because Words Count
When I’m not toiling away at my day job, which is graphic design in Ann Arbor, I’m busy at home with writing my novel. I spend a lot of time on it: sometimes my kids and husband really sacrifice and there’s guilt on my part. But they know it’s important to me and I want my kiddos to have well-rounded lives, so it’s up to me to set the example. Anyway, my agent asked me to cut length in my novel. It was difficult to say the least. I cut 5000 words, which is like three chapters. From 75.000 to 70,000. It’s still long. But I just kept thinking while I cut away at it, how much time I’d spent on those sections. Sometimes not much, sometimes A LOT. The ends justify the means in this case. The book is better.
