Owner-operators
Although many people who want to be truck drivers work for a trucking company, there are people who prefer to work for themselves. They are owner-operators of their own rigs. They get to decide which trucking jobs they accept and which they don’t want to take. The trade-off is that when you own your own truck you actually get to negotiate your own deals. The down-side of owning your own truck is that high gas prices and other costs are going to have to be absorbed by the business owner. In this case the rig owner instead of a large trucking company.
