Going to a dealership without financing can mean that you are stuck with a worse rate than if you went out on your own to get financing. This isn’t because dealerships are trying to rip you off, but because auto dealerships typically only have a handful of banks that they work with for financing, after that it is up to you. Going in prepared doesn’t mean that they can’t check their banks for you, it only means that if they can’t offer you the best deal you can get financing a different way.
