Constructing a Celtic drum
The Bodhran (an Irish drum) is Ireland’s oldest form of musical instrument. If you were weaving on a Scottish or Irish loom, you would have heard music from the flute, whistle, button accordion leads driven by strands for a snappy rhythm guitar and the bouncy beat of Celtic bodhrans. A spellbinding solo on a bodhran, a traditional goatskin Irish drum, can be underscored by the close up of the instrument and the deafening dominance of the music. One side of the Bodhran Irish drum is covered with the skin of a goat or even of a greyhound and is struck with the hand or tipper.
